Committed to Excellence
McAllen Independent School District is rooted in excellence and a tradition of success that spans one hundred and one years. The first McAllen school opened its doors in 1908 to welcome twenty children of all ages from throughout the young community. It has had a stellar reputation.
Today, McAllen ISD is home to the 2009 Texas Teacher of the Year, an International Baccalaureate (IB) Program that consistently surpasses global test results, students and teachers who have earned state, national and/or international acclaim and an illustrious list of alumni led by a NASA astronaut. McAllen ISD was named a state finalist in the 2008 HEB Excellence Award and a National Model for its IB program. In a span of one year, four employees -- one principal and three teachers -- have been named state finalists in the HEB Excellence Award, one of them for the Lifetime Achievement Award.
