Career Technical Education

McAllen ISD Career Technical Education (CTE) programs are dedicated to preparing young people to manage the dual roles of family member and wage earner. CTE programs enable students to gain entry-level employment in a high-skill, high-wage job and/or to continue their education. At McAllen ISD, the Career Technical Education unit provides:

  • Fifteen career clusters of instruction and training
  • Dual enrollment opportunities with post-secondary institutions (15 plus with a 1000+ student enrollment Fall 2016
  • Job shadowing and Wage Earning Internship opportunities
  • Industry certification/licensing opportunities.
  • PREP – STC Employability Skills Certificate – Tenth Grade Course
  • Career and College Electronic System offered to all students K-12
  • Alliances with national student organizations -FIRST Robotics, BPA, DECA, SKILLS USA, HOSA, FCCLA, FFA.
  • Career and College awareness and exploration opportunities offered K-12

             McAllen ISD Career Technical Education State Vision

The Texas State Plan for 2016 is focused on improving academic and technical opportunities for students, including rigorous and relevant career preparation. A new workforce ready to meet the demands of the 21st century can become a reality in Texas through the collaborative efforts of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB)
