Elementary physical education instruction in grades K-5 is administered by elementary physical education teachers and paraprofessionals. State law requires moderate or vigorous activity for at least 30 minutes throughout the school year or 135 minutes per week.
Middle school physical education instruction in grades 6-8 is administered by certified physical education teachers. Beginning with the 2008-09 school year, students in grades six through eight will be required to participate in daily physical activity for at least four semesters during those grade levels.
Beginning with School Year 2007-2008, all students at the high school level are required to earn 1 credit of physical education to graduate.
Although health education is highly recommended, there is no health requirement to graduate.
