Lamar Academy IB School of Distinction Award

McAllen ISD’s Lamar Academy earned the prestigious International Baccalaureate Organization School of Distinction award on January 26, 2017. The district earned this worldwide award due to its historical IB diploma earning rate of 98.1 percent (highest in the world). The global average is just 79.3 percent. McAllen ISD has awarded more than 550 IB diplomas since 2003. Paul Sanders, Head of IBO Global Recognition, from the IBO presented the award on behalf of Dr. Siva Kumari Director General of the International Baccalaureate Organization to McAllen ISD Superintendent Jose J Gonzalez, Ed.D, Lamar Academy, Head of School Cindy Pena, and IB Coordinator Marissa Sarabando. The success of the Lamar Academy IB Programme is the result of the work of the teachers, students, parents, Friends of IB and community that support the McAllen ISD International Baccalaureate Programmes. The District continues to offer the IB Programme at three  elementary campuses, Alvarez Elementary, Perez Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary and the IB Academy at DeLeon Middle School.
