COLLABORATION BETWEEN CORPORATE, COMMUNITY & EDUCATIONAL ENTITIES
The McAllen Education Foundation, a philanthropic tax-exempt public corporation independent of the District with its own board of directors, operates based upon the philosophy that public education should be a collaborative effort between corporate, community and educational entities.
The mission of the Foundation is to provide support to help foster excellence and enhance educational opportunities for the students of the District by funding the following areas:
• Innovative Teaching Grants
• Student Scholarships
• Professional Learning
In 1996 a group of concerned citizens along with key members of the McAllen ISD administration and the backing of the board of trustees established a non-profit group to encourage and fund exciting and innovative teaching ideas. The result was the establishment that year of the McAllen Education Foundation, Inc. The Foundation’s philosophy and guiding principle is that “public education should be a collaborative effort between corporate, community and educational entities.” Since it was chartered, the Foundation has provided over Three Hundred Seventy-Five thousand dollars to inspirational, creative teachers in the district to expand and enhance the learning experience of hundreds of children.
