Music in Our School Month

At Milam Elementary School, music is more than a class; it is the heartbeat of our Milam Mustangs. Here, 100% of students step onto the stage, whether through PTO performances, the end-of-year celebration, or our cherished December tradition, Merry Milam with first grade. But music at Milam goes far beyond performance. Students explore composers through our Composer of the Month, engage in rhythmic and melodic activities where they read, write, perform, and create, and discover instruments, folk dances, and classroom ensembles. Opportunities continue with Recorder Club, our 4th Grade Honor Choir representing Milam at the district choral festival, and participation in Music Memory competitions that expose students to diverse eras, styles, and cultures. Music In Our Schools Month becomes a joyful reminder of what music means to us all year long: enriching minds, building confidence, and inspiring a lifelong love of learning.

Under the leadership of Mrs. Casas and Mrs. Cortez and with the support of our Principal, Ms. Hernandez, Milam’s music program celebrates both present and past Mustangs. We proudly honor our former students who advance to All-State in choir, band, orchestra, and mariachi, and who earn multiple chairs at All-Region competitions; a true testament to the strong foundation built here. The legacy continues in the voices of our students as they sing the beloved bilingual Milam song, composed by our own Mrs. Cortez: “Milam, you’re in my heart, my beloved elementary school. You’ll be in my memories as my first little steps on the right path for success.” At Milam, music is tradition, excellence, pride... and the soundtrack of every Mustang’s journey. 🎶
