Course Offerings

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS

  • Kindergarten students are identified March 1 and served in the regular Kindergarten class with GT trained teachers using appropriate strategies.

  • First Grade through fifth grade students are served in self contained gifted classrooms in all day classrooms at their home campuses.  Every elementary is fully trained and ready to serve gifted and talented students.   GT trained teachers serve the students by adding depth and complexity as well as flexible pacing to the core curriculum.

  • Perez, Roosevelt and Alvarez Elementary campuses offer the International Baccalaureate Programme – a Texas Education Agency recognized option for serving gifted and talented students.  For more information, please visit their campus websites.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS

  • Sixth Grade through eighth grade students are served in gifted and talented  classes in the four core academic areas in each of the seven neighborhood middle schools. These classes serve identified gifted middle school students with GT differentiated curriculum.

  • In addition to the GT classes seventh and eighth grade students accelerated in math are served at their home schools or feeder high schools. Students may accelerate to take Algebra 1 as early as  7th grade and Geometry in 8th grade.

  • DeLeon Middle School is offering a special Gifted and Talented Program in partnership with Lamar Academy.  Eligible gifted 7th and  8th graders will invited to participate in classes such as Geometry and Biology at Lamar Academy.

HIGH SCHOOL GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS

  • Ninth through twelfth grade GT students are served in Advanced Placement classes, International Baccalaureate and Concurrent Enrollment classes.
