Focus Area 6: Community Involvement

Community Involvement is integral to our success at McAllen ISD.  As our city's school district, we take pride in educating students who will one day serve their community in a wide variety of capacities right here in the Rio Grande Valley, and away.  Wherever our students venture, we know that our schools and our community shape them into the men and women they become.  

So many things depend on the support of our community.  You choose to send your children to our schools.  You support our teachers and leaders.  Business leaders open their doors for career and technical education.  Fans fill our stadiums, gymnasiums, and auditoriums.  The ways our community gets involved are plenty.  There are also ways in which we serve not only our students, but our families, integrate efforts to better educate children, and keep our community informed.

Student Outreach

Choosing a school for your child is a huge decision.  With many options, it is important that you choose a place where your child will be supported, encouraged, and nurtured through their entire educational journey.  The Student Outreach team dedicates themselves to educating and informing the community on all that McAllen ISD has to offer. 

While our community members are always welcomed to drop by our offices, we pride ourselves in getting out into the community and taking the great McAllen ISD story to you.  Whether it is at a community celebration, a community center, or in the neighborhoods of our community, we love meeting people and answering questions for parents and students alike.

Community Information

McAllen ISD is McAllen's school district. As such, we strive to ensure our community is kept abreast of the great work, events, announcements, and other information within the district.  Our Community Information team is an amazing group of professionals who produce material in all formats so you, our valued partner, stay connected and informed.

Early Childhood Education Collaboration

Starting a child's education on the right foot from day one is essential to long-term success.  McAllen ISD has entered into unique collaborations with community partners to make early childhood education even more accessible to the children of our community. These collaborations include Head Start of Hidalgo County and early childhood education centers, featured here.

District Operations

Student Operations at McAllen ISD includes Child Nutrition, Technology, Student Operations, Facilities & Maintenance, Transportation, and Student Outreach. These departments work to ensure our students have the resources to access their education and maximize their success.  Here we have focused on Child Nutrition.  

Child Nutrition.  McAllen ISD provides free, nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and after-school snacks/dinners to every student every school day.  This effort has continued during school closures in the form of grab-and-go sites and meals on wheels locations.  As of April 30, this dedicated group of individuals have served over 300,000 meals! This is an incredible service to our community, and one we are so proud to share.  

Parent Programs

McAllen ISD is proud to involve our parent community in a wide variety of classes, workshops, volunteer opportunities, and peer leadership groups to ensure the parent voice is always heard and their unique perspective is part of our strategic direction.
