Health Screening

Annually, the Comprehensive School Health Department of McAllen I.S.D. conducts health-screening examinations. The health-screening program includes assessment of the child’s or adolescent’s growth and development.

In addition to health screening, the immunization status of all students is reviewed on enrollment and throughout the year as a control measure for communicable diseases. The Texas Department of Health through the authority of the Texas Education Code 38.002 and 38.0025 TAC 92.72, requires an annual report of immunization status to measure immunization compliance.

By scheduling and conducting comprehensive health screenings, McAllen I.S.D. hopes to identify students who need medical or therapeutic treatment. Students found to have abnormalities or related problems are referred to appropriate health care providers. Health counseling is provided to the student and family to assist in accessing medical or financial assistance when necessary.

General health screenings are conducted during the first 120 days of school as mandated by the state of Texas for elementary students and continuing through February for secondary students.
