A robotics team from McAllen High and McAllen Memorial High plus a Memorial student will soon be competing on the state and world stages.

McAllen High’s Team Gigabots 19857 won first place in the Inspire Award while Memorial’s Team Osiris 13265 brought home the Connect Award at the South Texas Robotics Championships on Feb. 23. McAllen High will compete at both the state championships this month and the world championships in April while Memorial advanced to the state level.

Liliana Martinez, a Team Osiris member, earned recognition as a Dean’s List Finalist and will participate at the World competition.

The McAllen High team won for its environmentally sustainable outreach efforts. They partnered with Keep McAllen Beautiful by adopting La Vista Park and scheduling periodic clean ups.

The McAllen High and Memorial teams will compete in both the State UIL Championship on March 24 and the FIRST in Texas FTC (First Tech Challenge) State competition March 25-26.

There were 40 robotics teams competing in 50 matches at the South Texas event.
