McAllen High School freshman, Allyson Contador, has become the 2025 “Best in the U.S. National Vocal Grand Champion.” This happened at the 31st Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza, the nation’s premier mariachi vocal competition on December 6, 2025 in San Antonio. She earned this top national title as a 14-year-old freshman, along with a $5,000 H-E-B scholarship. This marks the third National Vocal Grand Champion for McAllen High Mariachi Oro in the past decade.
