Moses Patterson, Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach at McAllen ISD’s McAllen Memorial High, has earned a Regional Coach of the Year award from a state organization.

The Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) announced the 2025-26 Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Regional Coach of the Year honorees for football. Patterson was named the top head coach for Region 7 in Class 5A – a zone that includes the Rio Grande Valley and other parts of South Texas.

Last fall, the Mustangs went 9-3 and earned a district championship with a 7-0 record. Patterson has served as Head Coach for the Mustangs since 2021.

Patterson has been invited to be recognized with a City Proclamation about the award at a McAllen City Commission meeting at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 9 at City  Hall.

THSCA members are offered a chance to nominate a head coach and/or an assistant coach for the Coach of the Year award after the state championships in each sport. Nominations are reviewed and chosen by the THSCA Awards Committee, which is comprised of Athletic Directors representing all areas of Texas.

The partnership with Texas Farm Bureau Insurance honors these coaches and their commitment to supporting the communities they serve. High school athletics play a pivotal role in shaping young individuals, teaching them valuable lessons in leadership, teamwork, and perseverance. By recognizing and celebrating the hard work and dedication of coaches, Texas Farm Bureau Insurance aims to inspire excellence both on and off the field of competition. This collaboration highlights their passion for investing in the development of student-athletes, reinforcing the importance of strong role models and positive influences in the lives of young Texans.
