McHi Ashley Trevino

McAllen High’s Ashley Treviño, a senior violinist and vocalist, is featured in the inaugural issue (May 2021) of the International Journal of Mariachi Education & Performance.

Her story and incredible accomplishments are chronicled in the Student Spotlight. Trevino’s story appears on pages 55-58 in both English and Spanish.

Trevino has earned the 2020 Best in the US National Grand Champion award at the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza plus the Grand Champion Vocalist at the 2019 Jose Hernandez Mariachi National event in California. She has also earned numerous awards in mariachi and orchestra including a TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) All-State recognition for mariachi last fall.

In addition, the six-time state champion McAllen High Mariachi Oro has been selected as one of just three featured mariachi school programs in the nation under the headline Ingredients For A Successful Mariachi Program In Your School on pages 59-63.

“It was an honor to have been interviewed for this piece and also being able to share a little bit about our success and what we do here at McAllen High and at McAllen ISD to reach those levels of performance that have opened the doors for our students at the high school level, college level and beyond,” McAllen High Mariachi Oro Director Alex Trevino said.
