A McAllen ISD teacher is being recognized at a statewide level for helping her students master the English language.

Isabel Marble, an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at Memorial High School, has been selected as one of the top-performing high school ESL teachers in the state. This is her third year with McAllen ISD.

“You have been selected as one of the top-performing High School ESL Teachers in Texas in terms of guiding your students in achieving substantial growth on their English Language Proficiency Assessment in 2021,” John Kresky, Founder and CEO of Summit K12 in Austin, wrote in an email. “Congratulations on such a great accomplishment and distinguishing yourself among tens of thousands of other Texas secondary teachers using the Summit K12 Connect to Literacy program.”

She will be recognized by Summit K12 at the Texas Association for Bilingual Education (TABE) Conference on October 26 in El Paso. As a statewide finalist, she is eligible for the first-place award.

“We are proud of your accomplishment and your commitment to helping each of your English Learners reach their full potential in light of all of the adversity they faced over the past two years,” Kresky added. “We appreciate your passion and commitment in supporting your English Learners including long-term ELs and implementing the Connect to Literacy program with fidelity at Memorial High School.”

More than 34 percent of McAllen ISD students are considered Emergent Bilinguals (formally called English Learners).
