Once again, the McAllen High Mariachi Oro has earned recognition on a national stage!
They are one of just 10 music programs in the country to become a Medal of Distinction Maestro Award national winner. They are the 2021 National Youth Mariachi of Distinction.
The contest began in May and ended this month following multiple rounds of “live” concert production submissions.
“We are extremely proud of these kids for representing McAllen High, McAllen ISD and the entire state of Texas through this national award,” McAllen High Mariachi Oro Instructor Alex Trevino said.
In addition, the Global Initiative for Talented Students organization will be securing a world-renowned clinician to visit the campus to work with Mariachi students in a private clinic and workshop setting later this school year.
McAllen High Mariachi Oro is a six-time state champion. McAllen ISD has been named a national Best Community for Music Education for nine consecutive years.
