McAllen ISD will feature three awesome mariachi groups for its inaugural McAllen ISD Mariachi Holiday Spectacular at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, at the McAllen High auditorium.

This special performance will feature the combined forces of the talented McAllen ISD mariachi students from McAllen High Mariachi Oro, McAllen Memorial High Mariachi Los Portrillos and James “Nikki” Rowe High Mariachi Azteca.

The festive sounds of traditional and contemporary mariachi music will highlight the event. The three groups will perform their own sets and a grand finale will include all three performing together.

“Students have been working hard since early summer for a number of TMEA, UIL and other major events and auditions where they have done incredibly well representing our schools and school district at the regional, state and national levels,” McAllen High Mariachi Oro Instructor Alex Trevino said. “This concert will be a fun, relaxing and festive way to ring in the holiday season as many of us prepare to close out the semester.”

Tickets will go on sale at 2 p.m. Sunday and are just $10 at the door. The doors will open at 2:30 p.m. The McAllen High auditorium is at 2021 La Vista Ave.

McAllen ISD has been named a national Best Community for Music Education for nine consecutive years. Only about six percent of school districts nationwide earn that honor.
