Lamar Academy mock trial team

McAllen ISD’s Lamar Academy Mock Trial team is state-bound!

The team secured the Regional Championship following the annual competition held January 29, at the Hidalgo County Courthouse in Edinburg. They will compete in the state contest March 4 in Dallas. This is the fifth straight year Lamar Academy has advanced to the state competition.

In the fictional civil jury trial of Musée d’Orso v. Seascape Property and Casualty Insurance Company, the Lamar Academy team out-motioned and out-argued their case to become the regional mock trial champions.

In addition, team member Adrian Villegas took first place in the Courtroom Sketch Artist category. Student artists are required to document the court proceedings by depicting an actual courtroom scene observed during their team’s trial.

Other members of the Lamar Academy team include Ana Sofia Leal, Victoria Otero-Lai, Florencia Gastelum, Vianey Silva, Sofia Cadena, Olivia Gonzalez, Catalina Arriaga, Nathan Kaplan, Sohum Jain, Lillian Welty and Gerardo Zermeno.

The team’s faculty advisors are Hiram Orozco and Sandra Herrera-Walker. Their attorney/advisor is Jaime A. Gonzalez, Jr.
