Mariachi ensembles from McAllen High, McAllen Memorial and McAllen Rowe have all qualified for the UIL state contest.
In fact, all four groups sent by McAllen ISD earned the highest rating at the UIL South Zone contest this month.
The four mariachi ensembles (three varsity plus one junior varsity group from Rowe) earned straight Division I Superior Ratings (highest score), bringing home the Sweepstakes Award and Division 1 Medals. The four groups earned 61 medals between them and the trio of varsity mariachi ensembles will compete at state.
The State UIL Mariachi Festival will be in late February in Seguin.
