Focus Area 7: Emotional Intelligence
Research shows, emotional intelligence (EQ) is more important than one’s intelligence (IQ) in attaining success in life and careers. At McAllen ISD, we have made emotional intelligence development one of our areas of focus. In a collaborative effort, administrators, teachers, and counselors partner with parents in this effort to develop the emotional intelligence of our students. Thru this virtual parent symposium, we aim to inform parents about the District’s vision and overview for the development of emotional intelligence and provide resources for parents on developing their child’s emotional intelligence at home.
It is the expectation that all our McAllen ISD teachers support emotional intelligence development in their classrooms. Emotional Intelligence development looks different in every classroom. Here are some examples on how these teachers support emotional intelligence in their classroom and educational programs.
To develop the Emotional Intelligence in your child is as essential as giving them nourishing food. The benefit of Emotional Intelligence is that it can make a parent’s job easier. High Emotional Intelligence makes children and teens better able to learn, problem-solve, and develop positive social relationships. The following is an overview presentation about Emotional Intelligence for Parents’ assistance.
